Corr Blimey – What Happened to Jim?

BEFORE READING ON… PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS POST WON’T MAKE MUCH SENSE TO THOSE OUTSIDE IRELAND AND IT WILL BE PERFECTLY CLEAR TO THOSE OF US UNFORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE NO SOCIAL LIFE AND THEREFORE WATCHED RTE’S NEW CHAT SHOW ON SATURDAY NIGHT HOSTED BY BRENDAN O’CONNOR

I almost gave up watching Brendan O Connor’s debut as chat show host, on what will probably go down as another of RTE’s ill fated attempts to find a Saturday night successor to Gaybo or should that be Tubo. It takes a very special talent to make not only the guests but also the viewers as uncomfortable as Mr O Connor did. Stick to slagging off reality TV contestants please, Brendan.

But I digress (although I do feel the better of it)…. What about Jim Corr? What a surprise that was. Mild mannered little Jim, who for years had plucked his guitar in lonely obscurity behind his gorgeous sisters charisma and charm. He was the spare wheel on the Corr’s rocket to stardom. Now we all know what dark thoughts were coursing through what looked like the most vacant of minds. Conspiracy theories on a grand scale and something called the New World Order.

All just goes to show how dangerous it can be to totally overshadow one’s quiet and reserved brother. Sharon, Andrea and Caroline what have you done to poor Jim? As the world’s media jostled to have a word with you and flashbulbs dazzled in your path, Jim was left out in the cold. And here, all alone he was thinking deep and dark thoughts of how we are all on the road to ruin. Poor Jim. And we have all played a part in pushing him over to the dark side. For my part Jim, I am very sorry. I just never realised you were thinking at all!

  1. I thought it was a spoof for a while. Then I realised how serious he was. Brendan should surely have challenged him, not let him go on and on, sounding almost sane and presumably dragging some gullible viewers down his path to madness. Irresponsible for RTE.

  2. My favorite chat show import from your neck of the woods was Khumars at No. 42. We're too daft in American to have anything that smart and funny. I'm still angry at BBC America for taking it off the air.

  3. Well, I don't mind telling you that I coudn't sleep a wink after all Jim's revelations. I suppose that our devastating floods and severe snowstorms were all dastardly plots hatched in some secret laboratory. As you say, Barbara, who'd ever have thought he was harbouring all those sinister theories. It just goes to show you can't go by appearances.

  4. Hello @emerging writer and thanks for the comment. It was all very surreal alright!

@DawnMaria – yep The Kumars was a goodie, but I have to say that I think the best comedy is coming out of the US at the moment. Altho not I suppose sitcoms I just love the dialogue in Desperate Housewives, loved Nurse Jackie, and Modern Family is hilarious!

@Noirin – I tell you it makes you wonder alright? But relax, I think that Poor Jim is inhabiting some parallel universe.

  5. Don't forget Jim is from Dundalk they always have the inside track on all ongoing conspiracies! I had heard a lot of it before but needless to say it won't keep me awake at night or even during my nap!

  6. @maureen – you had better be careful girl and not allow that man of yours languish in your shadow.. or you could be in the same boat. That is if as you say, they are the same in Dundalk!!!

  7. hi barbara, am raging i switched off just after the embarrassing peaches geldof bit, couldnt bear it anymore, would loved to have seen jim and his theories, thanks for another entertaining read
    Brigid

  8. Poor Jim. I didn't even bother to listen to him. Was flicking through the channels; when I saw his face, quickly moved on to something more interesting! I would agree that Brendan was pretty bad. It was all a bit “cringe”

  9. Hi Brigid and Olive… u both better keep an eye out for his appearances in future. Maybe he is right!!!! He has a website with all his theories (such as the Americans blew up the WTC themselves on 9/11). Its at http://www.jimcorr.com just dont say I sent u!

  10. Hmm, I missed this but sounds like I should have paid more attention! I didn't like the first guy he had on so tuned out after that. Maybe Jim's on Youtube!
PS – excuse the strange link on this comment! Seem to be having comment joy again!!

  11. Now I know I left a comment here, but I have been having computer woes and it looks like my comment has bitten the dust, along with a post and a competition entry. Life sucks! It seems the computer ate my stuff!
